On July 1, Debbie and I celebrate 29 years of marriage. Looking back we laugh at how little we began with. No money, no real plan, no support systems, no role models at that time, yet God supplied every need as we never stopped growing, challenging each other to set and achieve personal goals, and tried to follow the Biblical principles of marriage. It’s been the journey of a lifetime. I respect and love that girl more than I have words to say. She’s my best friend, advisor, & the one who refuses to stop believing in me. We had coffee outside this morning overlooking the California ocean and making plans for the day and it occurred to me again, “the best moments in life are the ones where you are with your best friend”…If you can have that, the years will fly by!

is the title to an out of print book by Paul Crouch Sr. I read this several years ago and it was very good. As Fathers Day approaches, I am reminded that some people had wonderful fathers who loved them and played a key role in their life. Others had absent, abusive, resentful or just plain sorry fathers. Healing for them can be found in a relationship with God as a Father. That’s a role He’s eager to take in our life.

Public Enemies is the movie coming July 1 about John Dillinger (played by Johnny Depp). In the end he gets shot by Melvin Purvis ( can’t put a gun in the hands of a Purvis, he’ll kill gansta’s with it). Jesus had his share of public enemies didn’t He? For some of you, that slows you down and prevents you from going all out. It shouldn’t, it may just mean that you’re doing something right, so follow Christ anyway and He will settle all scores for you. I know that’s true!

Professor and personal friend, Dr. Mike Bozack has written an outstanding book called, “Street-Smart Advice to Christian College Students”. It’s a must read “one-of-a-kind” for any student, parent, pastor and educator, who wants to see a student succeed in college. Get a copy and see if I’m not right on this one!

Looks like it’s going to be Kate plus 8 if things don’t change. I hope not. That’s why our Summer Love Marriage series coming in July is so relevant at this time. Healthy marriages take intentional and constant work. Hope you’ll be there. Hope Jon & Kate’s marriage works out too.

I was honored this week to give the commencement address to over 800 graduating students in Bible College in North Carolina and they’ve invited me back next year also. It’s a blessing to see the passion these students have to take their world for Christ. I enjoyed spending time with Dr. J.L. Cook, his wife Judy, sons John, Daniel, Timothy and their families as they hosted me so graciously. I treasure their friendship and respect Dr. Cooks remarkable leadership gifts more than they know. God is so good to us. I thank Him daily for all He does in guiding and providing in my life.
