What Are You CALLED to do?

A “calling” isn’t what you’re paid for, it’s what you’re made for. One of the great frustrations of a persons life is when they don’t have a clear understanding of what they are “called” for. I see it all the time. People who live life enduring their job, just existing in their environments and wishing for some life that really is within their reach, but they never reach it. Why? Several reasons. One is that they don’t have clarity on what they are called to do with their life. All of us have a calling. It’s what we are energized by, passionalte about, dream of, capable of, and could be immersed in and not complain of. My house is being painted right now by a team of painters. One of those guys has the best attitude, the most energy, a love for what he does. He doesn’t want to ever do anything else. He’s called to be a painter. I fish with a doctor who loves surgery. He knew as a teenager he wanted to be a doctor and never entertained any other calling. I have a cardiologist friend who is neck deep in trying to find cures for his patients. He loves the challenge of healing the human body. I could go on and on. It’s the calling issue. I challenge you today to begin a serious search for what your calling is. Once found, just go for it. You can endure life or live it, the last is much more fulfilling!

I have been a Crisis Intervention Specialist doing contract work teaching parenting classes for Georgia DFCS for over two years. I see a need for a business that helps mommies and mommies~to~be before DFCS has to intervene. I also want to be able to share the word of God with these women (and sometimes men) at the same time. The Lord has been weighing this on my heart for months, “How can I help?” Many times, women feel completely lost and alone and they may not be able to afford the things they need for their babies. They may not know how to care for their babies. That’s where Mommy Stuff” comes in. We accept (and search for) donations of maternity and baby stuff. When someone needs something, we get it to them. We charge “Mommy Bucks” for all items which are earned by taking parenting education classes. At this time, we have limited stuff, but we are working very hard to turn that around so even if we don’t have something that a mommy needs, we will get her information and try to find it for her. So far we have diaper bags, maternity clothes, miscellaneous maternity items, baby clothes, shoes, a swing, car seats, and some large toys. If you come across a woman that can donate something or that NEEDS ANYTHING, please send them to us. We also have a lot of parenting resources, and as I have worked in counseling for years, these women definitely have someone who can listen. Right now, I am using a storage shed at my house to hold donations so I will deliver anything that is needed. Hopefully, as this business grows, we can expand and have an actual building that houses the Mommy Stuff Store. This IS a Christian company/ministry and at this time run strictly by volunteers; all glory goes to God. There is no judgment; just a little help that is similar to a swap meet! Being a mommy is the most wonderful thing in the world and I want to help make sure that it’s not too scary or too overwhelming.

When Dr. Purvis preached about Noah, I felt as if he had made that sermon specifically for me! I just got started on “Mommy Stuff” this month and I know that this is what God wants me to do. I have never been so sure of anything in all my life. I bought some of the DVDs on parenting and plan on using those as a basis for many of the parenting classes. Please pray for me as I learn to wait on the Lord and let Him lead the way!
