Ministry takes many forms. Here’s a glimpse of it in my life just yesterday. After exercising, I spent time praying and preparing for weekend messages, returning calls, responding to letters, emails, reviewing reports of our ministry departments, trying to solve problems (they always re-surface, so I must be bad here), deciding what to preach at other places, etc.
Then gathered our staff for a time to remember Becky. (Our Preschool director who passed away this week). We listened to each other describe memories of her through tears and sometimes laughter, read scripture and had a time of prayer together. Our staff, so busy as a “pastor” to others, needed a pastor today.
From there, I met with a nice young man who is searching for God. He’s so close to that act of faith and so genuine in his search.
Then did a conference call with a book publisher about another project. Heard from a pastor using our book, “Pray for Your Pastor” as he begins a prayer partner ministry in his church.
Then met with Reid McChesney, Grant, and Luke to discuss Becky’s funeral and I learned that Becky called Aaron, her youngest son just minutes before she died and told him how much she loved him. What a gift she was giving him!
Then met with an athlete already in a professional organization. He was under conviction and wanted to become a follower of Jesus. He said, “I’m ready to take God serious, so help me”. He prayed to receive Christ. God knows how to make my day!
I made a promise to Mrs. Debbie, (my bride) that if she’d handle several projects for me, I’d bring home dinner to save her from cooking. Got Outback take out. The lady, asked if I wanted something to drink while waiting. I said, “how about a blooming onion and a chocolate thunder from down under while I wait”. Didn’t happen for me.
So there’s ministry, as I said, it takes on many different forms.

You are such an awesome testimony of God’s grace. Our family just admires you and respects you more than you will ever know. I was thrilled to learn that you had a blog - blogs have a way of really revealing the hearts of people. Thank you for sharing this with us, and most of all, thank you for being our pastor!

Thank you Pastor for the ups and downs you shared about your day. But I have to say the e-devotional, met me where I’m at today! I know it, and have acted many times before in faith. God has never let me down and any situation. But there’s a step of faith that is far greater than I have ever experienced, coming. God is preparing my heart and I can’t get enough of your words and encouragement. Thank you for being our pastor! I pray you and Mrs. Debbie will be blessed greatly today!
